Rome to Florence via Orvieto and Civita di Bagnoregio

Private transfer from Rome to Florence (or vice versa) with stop for sightseeing in Orvieto and Civita di Bagnoregio

Via Orvieto & Bagnoregio About 1.5 hours north of Rome we will reach the city of Orvieto. Orvieto has been a city of great prestige in several different historical periods. Beginning in the 9th Century BC the Etruscan civilization experienced a period of great splendor and importance. This was the most important town of the vast territory of Etruria. Later the Romans seized Orvieto from the Etruscans forcing them to leave the city and destroying almost all evidence of the Etruscan civilization. When the Holy Roman Empire fell, the city changed over to Gaul rule and later to the Longobards. In the Middle Ages, Orvieto reached its maximum splendor and it is in fact the period in which its magnificent Duomo was started in 1290. This beautiful example of Gothic architecture is worth a visit. The city has many interesting churches and palaces and is also a great place to eat. There are several very good eateries in the town.
Bagnoregio, also called “The Dying Town” is built on a mountain of tufa rock which has slowly eroded over the centuries making the city now accessible only by a long and spectacular pedestrian bridge. With only eight year-long inhabitants the town is a fascinating place to visit. This is the birthplace of St. Bonaventura and his relics can be seen in the Church of San Nicola in this town. The town has maintained all of its medieval buildings.
When you are finished visiting these two “off-the-beaten-track” places, your driver will bring you comfortably to your destination.
