This four hour private walking tour will take you to visit the three major basilicas in Rome, one of which San Giovanni in Laterano, is also the cathedral of Rome. Visit the beautiful 8th century San Paola Fuori le Mura (St. Paul Outside the Walls) - the place where Saint Paul is buried. This huge abbey and basilica belong to the Vatican although they are located in Roman territory. Santa Maria Maggiore (Saint Mary Major) is located on the Esquiline hill and is one of the four Papal basilicas in Rome. Built in the 5th century by Pope Sixtus III, it was dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. You will also visit San Giovanni in Laterano (Saint John in Lateran), the oldest and most important basilica in the western world. This is a Papal Archbasilica, the official ecclesiastical seat of the Bishop of Rome, who is the Pope. As the cathedral of the Bishop of Rome, it ranks above all other churches in the Catholic Church, including St. Peter's Basilica. For that reason, unlike all other Roman Basilicas, it holds the title of Archbasilica. Lastly, you will visit one of the catacombs of Rome to see where the early Christians were buried. The catacombs have an entrance fee of Euro 5.00. less >>
