The mild climate of Lake Garda make this an ideal day trip to take any time of the year from Milan. There is so much to see here - the lake is surrounded by incredible views, amongst the most beautiful in Italy. Towns and villages, hillsides and mountains and centuries of history make this one of the most fascinating places to visit from the city of Milan.
The first thing to admire about Lake Garda is its spectacular beauty - the landscape from the north coast is without a doubt the best with views of the Alps. On the other hand, the south side has the luxuriously green countryside.
Lake Garda has been inhabited since the Roman times and known for its thermal water. This ancient history has left behind a precious testimony - the Grottoes of Catullo, one of the most important ancient Roman ruins on the lake in the town of Sirmione where your tour may begin. Surrounded by mountains, most of the towns are located on the banks of the lake or on the mountain slopes. Sirmione is perhaps the most famous and characteristic town on Lake Garda and located on a narrow peninsula. Riva del Garda combines beauty and important historical monuments, while Desenzano is usually a destination for those wanting to enjoy excursions on the Brescia side of the lake. Other important and beautiful towns are Salò, Maderno, Malcesine and Gardone which are all worth a visit. less >>
