If you don’t have much time in Florence but still want to see all the major sites before exploring on your own, we can arrange for a half day tour with our driver who will show you the highlights of this lovely city in complete comfort. You will be taken to one of the most panoramic squares above the city – Piazzale Michelangelo, where besides the wonderful view of Florence, we will also admire the bronze copy of the statue of David.
Nearby on the hill is the Romanesque church of San Miniato with its monumental cemetery, the Belvedere Fortress, and the narrow winding roads that make Florence such an interesting city to discover. You’ll then cross the river to see the Basilica of Santa Croce where Florence’s most illustrious citizens are buried, the Ponte Vecchio and its numerous jewelry shops, and finally the Pitti Palace and the magnificent Boboli Gardens. These vast gardens behind the Pitti Palace are designed in the Italian style typical of the High Renaissance with grottos and fountains, where shrubs and trees become architecture. The Pitti Palace is divided into museums such as the Galleria Palatina with works by Tintoretto, Caravaggio, Titian, Raphael, Andrea del Sarto, Botticelli, etc.; the Museo degli Argenti has a precious display of silver, gold, glass, crystal, and stone; the Galleria del Costume where we can admire clothing from different eras; and the Museo delle Carrozze which displays several eighteenth and nineteenth century coaches. Next stop is the “Piazza del Duomo” where you will see Florence’s cathedral “Duomo” which is dedicated to Santa Maria del Fiore, Giotto’s bell tower, the baptistery, and more.
And then of course, we can’t forget the shopping which is always an unforgettable experience in Florence. The most important shopping district is on and around the Via de’ Tornabuoni with designer stores like Ferragamo, Gucci, Armani, Prada, Vuitton, Valentino, Turssardi, Cartier, Coveri, Tiffany, Versace, Buccellati, Eleuteri, Cavalli, YSL, Desmo, Zegna, Tod’s, etc. You will also explore the medieval streets famous for small workshops and family-run business. The local craftsmen have much to show and offer in their small workshops in the Santo Spirito and Santa Croce area. You will enjoy the large outdoor market of San Lorenzo and its numerous stalls selling souvenirs, leather coats, bags and wallets, clothing and costume jewelry.
