Best of Genoa
Your english speaking driver will pick you up directly at your ship at the pier in Genova to drive you directly into the city of Cristoforo Colombo. Your first stop will be at the panoramic terrace of Castelletto and from here you’ll have the chance to admire the city center of Genoa, the port and the “Lanterna” or lighthouse which is considered the symbol of the town. After that your tour will continue to visit the old city, starting with the “House of Colombo” near the medieval gate of “Porta Soprana”, the Piazza De Ferrari, the Carlo Felice Opera House, the Palazzo Ducale, the Church of Sant' Andrea, the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, the Piazza San Matteo and much more. Time permitting you’ll drive to Camogli, a typical Tigullio coastal fishing village, where the houses painted in strong colors will make you think that you stepped into your favorite painting. Portofino & Santa Margherita
More than a century has passed since the French writer Guy de Maupassant wrote about Portofino. He was without a doubt one of the first VIP’s to “discover” this town. Since that time, Portofino has attracted writers, movie stars, and international celebrities from all over the world. The village, the square, the villas hidden amongst the olive groves, Portofino is worldly and private, a perfect combination; simple as a fishing village but dramatic and elegant at the same time. Portofino is a mixture of landscapes made up of tall, delicately colored buildings and a deep green sea backed by Monte Portofino. Your driver will take you to the “Piazzetta”, the center stage of life in Portofino. Besides the Piazzetta you won’t want to miss a visit to the Brown Castle and a walk to the church of St. George and to the lighthouse. A five minute walk will bring you from the harbor to the Church of San Giorgio that houses relics of the dragon-slayer St. George. From here you will stop at the Brown Castle. The Cinque Terre
Another delightful itinerary is the one that goes through the Cinque Terre where the sea, the hills, the vineyards, the old fishing villages and the Genovese style churches add together to result in enthralling scenery. The 'Cinque Terre' are five small ancient fortified villages, inaccessible until some decades ago when a road was built. There are no cars and no noise but only nature. The population of each town is less than 500 except for Monterosso with 1000 inhabitants. Your driver will be waiting for you dockside at the prearranged time. Driving north, you'll reach Riomaggiore, the first of the five towns and walk through it to get on the "Via dell'Amore" (Walkway of Love) a famous and romantic easy walkway carved along the cliffs which will take you to the second town, Manarola, in about 15/20 minutes ...
